Digital Fluency Intensive 2020 Week Two - Round Two!

Workflow

I feel quite lucky to be able to repeat the workflow section of the DFI as well. It is a great reminder that the research behind Manaiakalani is based on international and local research, and that it is not based on digital practice. Digital practice is a tool to amplify and turbocharge the teaching and learning.

Reminders -
- To make learning rewindable
- Recognise Amplify Turbocharge

My new learning to improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional.

Chalk n Talk - Google Meet

Create a meet through
- g-mail,
- calendar invitation,
- google meet (best for students as the host needs to be in the room for the link to be active)

Only the owner can record the meeting
There are three options for screen sharing
- Share entire screen
- Share tab
- Share Chrome (best for videos)

Deep Dive - Google Keep

Note taking
Check lists
Collaborating by adding people
Photo to text (great for reading in the classroom)

Tab - to complete sentences in an email
Cog - for settings
Scheduling emails for the morning e.t.c.
Accepting invites in your calendar straight from g-mail

To organise labels - go to settings - all settings - Filters and Blocked Addresses
- Create new filter

- You change the settings to Mon - Fri for work
- Colour code
- Organise events ... and send reminders
- Calendar short cuts j/k left/right

Deep Dive - Taming Tabs

  • Toby or One Tab

  • Snooze to put tabs to sleep

  • Right click on tabs - to pin, close to the right, duplicate

Create - Google meet

  •  I have a recorded meeting that I need to find to put the link into this blog

My new learning that would benefit my learners.
Google meets are great for the learner. I would probably use these mainly for senior children. I really like Google Keep. I have not used it yet in my class however this has reminded me of its potentially in class. I would like to use Keep to pick up text. Maybe from a childs writing book or to share text with children.

In my personal life I would like to use the calendar more as well as Google Keep.

Digital Fluency Intensive 2020 Week One - Round Two!

Core Business

Week One - Digital Intensive (Round Two)

It was great to be able re-do the Core Business section of this course after the intensive being cut short due to Covid 19. I was nervous about doing using the digital platform for the learning even though I studied via distance learning. I found we covered more content and it was easier too follow along and keep up. I enjoyed hearing the story about the origin of the trust again and I found it interesting that in a survey it came up that the children did not think they should be teaching teachers how to use technology.

My learning for Week One

To personalise Google and make your own by,
- using the Chrome webstore - themes
- organise your bookmarks
- 📌 You can pin your tabs
- Ctrl tab # to switch between tabs up the top
- always add a profile and not another account :)

Deep dive - Google Groups

Google algorithm -     groups.google.com                          _______.google.com

- star you favourite groups
- use groups instead of contacts for group emails

Chalk ‘n Talk - Organise your Drive

- folders can be in alphabetical or most recent
- use number system or * to bring to the top
- use colours
- Shift Z - makes an alias to add to another folder
- Change overall permissions in Adv. to - anyone with link can view/edit/comment e.t.c.
- Use disable to change permissions, e.g. unable to print/download/copy e.t.c. prevent editing

SEARCH - docs/sheets/forms e.t.c.
- drive OmniBar - to search
- use arrow for an advanced search e.g. name, time, doc type

COPY and PASTE
- cntr + shift + v to paste
I use this for my reports, absolutely time saver!!!

Explore - Google Docs

HEADINGS
- Title
- Heading
- Table of Contents

These can all be set to the same format by using the drop down menu and the arrow :)
By adding a table of contents using the insert button the headings can be easily found!

TOP TIP
Guide children to a certain spot
 - click on OmniBar, copy the URL from there

Voice to Text
Use this for writing!! Especially for the boys! It can be used for asstle writing.

Explore
- Use the explore tool to search or add the meaning of words e.t.c. to a doc

Poster
- making posters in google docs
- use a table and change the outline to the same colour as the background
- this helps with formatting e.t.c.
- us A5 size to be able to see the whole screen

Here is my work-in-progress
I will use this in my class for the children to take ownership over there learning.

Reflection

This was a fabulous day of learning. Even though it was the second time completing the core business I still learnt new things and got reminded of others that I have not yet put into practice.

I look forward to the next eight weeks!
